ITINERARY:
JOURNAL ENTRY:
Drove to Yorkshire Dales National Park. Stopped at the Malham National Park Centre to inquire about trails and buy a map. Walked the trail to Janet's Foss, which had a small waterfall with a meandering tream.
Continued on the trail to Gordale Scar, which had a very large waterfall (most beautiful). Started heading back down the trail and decided to complete the whole loop and see Malham Cove.
The wind was blowing hard and the rail was still coming down, but we followed the trail the best we could. We were following a couple with 2 dogs, so we thought we were okay until one of us thought, "What if they are just walking home?" Then we spotted a couple behind us. Figured we were good.
There were parts of the trail that weren't marked, so we asked the couple behind us if they had walked this trail before. They said, "No". Uh-oh...
The four of us muddled along, not knowing if we were going the wrong way. At Malham Cove, we found the way down. There was a ton of steps. Fortunately, we got to walk dow them.
After getting back to Malham National Park Center, we found a place to eat called, "The Old Barn Cafe". Their sign had half a shoe on each side and said they were okay with muddy shoes and dogs. Once in the restaurant, we saw both couples we were walking with!!
Got baked potatoes with butter and cheese and a beef pasty, along with 2 hot chocolates with lots of whip cream and fun swirly marshmallows.
Drove back to the hotel quite tired, but it was a fun adventure.
