ITINERARY:
JOURNAL ENTRY:
Drove the Stirling to see the Arggll's Lodging. Couldn't find parking so we stopped to see where it was actually located. Found out it was closed for remodeling, so drove to see Inchmahome Priory.
We had to take a small boat (holds 12 people) to the island in the Lake of Menteith. It was very smooth sailing and a bit overcast when we left. Got to the island and explored the Priory and walked around the whole island.
Lots of old gnarled trees, dating back to the 16th century. Took the boat back to the mainland. Had to watch out for the gigantic spider sitting hight by our heads. Luckily, it had no interest in climbing in our hair!!
The sun finally came out and made for some gorgeous pictures on shore. The boat driver said we picked a great time to visit because we were able to get a boat ride right away. In the sumer, the line goes all the way to the parking lot.
Then drove to Doune Castle in Doune. The castle was used in films, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Outlander, Game of Thrones and Outlaw King. Asked the attendant at the castle for a good place to eat. We ended up at the Woodside Hotel Bar. Barb had Salmon with Hollandaise sauce and Phil had the Steak Pie. Both were quite good. Then had desset of Carmel Apple Granny with Custard and Rubarb Crumble with Custard. So, so good!
