ITINERARY:
JOURNAL ENTRY:
Walked to the East end of Glasgow and saw the People's Palace (Phil called it Place) and viewed
informaiton on the people who lived in Glasgow.
It became very crowded and numerous people were living in 1 and 2 room tenaments. Up to 5000
people a year were dying.
Outside the Palace, there was the Doulton Fountain. From there, we walked to the Glasgow Cathedral. Couldn't find it right away, so we ended up in Provand's Lordship, the oldest house in Glasgow. It was built in 1471.
Also wandered into John White Chapel, thinking it was part of the Cathedral. It was not. Also walked thru St. Mungo Museum of Religious Life and Art (in entrance, out exit) before FINALLY finding the cathedral.
No cool tour guide like at Chester Cathedral, but interesting none the least. Then walked to the top of the Glasgow Necropolis. Essentially, it's a cemetary for the rich. It did have a great view of the city.
Started walking back to the hotel and found the really nice part of town, City Center. It had an indoor high-end mall called Princes Square. There were beautiful wood trimmed escalators and stairs. Found a place that had great sandwiches and Ginger Beer. Yum! It was called High Street Sandwiches.
