ITINERARY:
JOURNAL ENTRY:
Drove to Sterling Castle in Sterling. Followed the tour guide to get an overview of the grounds. Then explored all the buildings and the garden.
The Great Hall was decorated at one time by J.K. Rowling to look like the dining hall at Hogwarts. The thrones where the King and Queen sat had chamber pots under the seats so they wouldn't have to leave the party to go to the bathroom. It was a privelege to be the servant to wipe the butts. Eewh!
The palace rooms of the King and Queen were decorated as they would have been back in mid 16th century. The King's rooms had painted oak roundels that were on the ceiling. The Queen's room had beautiful tapestries depicting the hunting of the unicorn. The originals are in New York's Metropolitan Museum. Making the reproductions at the Castle took 13 years.
THe Great Kitchens had some very detailed food items and workers and cooks which were all boys or men. The woman's place was not int he kitchen back then. Their cookbooks had some interesting recipes. The Queen Anne Garden had some very interesting uses of herbs.
After touring the castle, we had some creamy Scotish ice cream (Carmel & vanilla). Then drove back to Glascow. We ate at the Nando's restaurant again! We both had the moist and yummy chicken with garlic bread. Then went back to the hotel and went for a swim. Felt good!
