LOCATION: Liverpool, Chester

ITINERARY:

JOURNAL ENTRY:
Got up at 8:15am. Went down to breakfast. It was super crowded.

Drove to Chester. Played the Harry Potter game for one hour during the community event. Got a bunch of Hermoine Time-Turners.

Walked around the area. Tons of shops and a small market with tented shops. Bought 3 extremely, chocolatey, yummy treats. Had peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Barb put the raspberry jam on the banana we bought. So tasty!! Then ate 2 of the 3 yummy treats (1/2 of each for us).

Found the entry to the East Gate with the famous clock. It was quite ornate. Then walked the City Walls. Went past a Roman Bath house and continued to the South Gate, where we viewed the Bear & Billet Pub. It's the oldest timber framed building in Chester, built in 1664, and was once a toll gate into the city.

Continued on the walls past the racetrack and then back to the car. Before buying the 3 yummy treats, we toured the Chester Cathedral. It was originally a Benedictine abbey. It was shut down in 1540 as part of Henry VIII's reign so he could claim the money from the monks, since he was short on funds. The free tour by Julie was excellent!!

The ledge allowed those standing to take a bit of weight off. Had a great tour of the place.

The detail in these carvings is absolutely amazing and something they're very proud of.

Note the elephant has camel feet. Apparently they didn't know what elephant feet looked like.
