ITINERARY:
JOURNAL ENTRY:
Got up at 8:15am. Had another English breakfast. Drove to the town of
Conwy
to see the
castle
and the walled city.
As we were walking to the castle, we were stopped by 2 high school aged girls. They were doing a geography survey and asked us questions about where we were from, age, and such. Kinda interesting.
Found the castle entrance and spent a few hours exploring. Then found the suspension bridge and saw the old entrance to the castle before the more modern bridge was built around the castle.
Then had lunch at Anna's Tea Rooms . Barb had the Welsh Rarebit. It's hot cheese sauce over toasted thick Tiger Loaf. Phil had lasagna. After lounch, we walked the city walls.
Lots of fantastic views of the water and mountains. Then drove to Rowan to eat at the Tygwyn Pub.
Had to go down these roads that were two way, but only had room for one car! Luckily, we didn't meet anyone coming at us. There were only cars following us. It was a very crazy drive, like in Ireland. After all the effort to get there, turns out they were NOT serving dinner that night. :( So we walked in their beer garden and left.
Drove back ot the B&B in Criccieth and ate at the "Prince of Wales" pub. We both had fish & chips. Then walked along the water front, through town and by the castle.
PHIL's THOUGHTS:
Liked Comwy castle a lot. Think it's my 2nd favorite after Trim in Ireland. The amount of
planning and stonework involved was hard to comprehend. Would love to see the original plans.
Leaving or crating gaps for floor beams and creating chimneys for all the fireplaces took a lot
of effort!
Getting better at driving but still have a ways to go. Drove on our first path to get to the pub in Rowan. No food today! So Barb wisely had us head back to Conwy so we could then take the larger roads to Criccieth.
Was nice walking by the water and hearing the waves. Criccieth Castle looks like it's floating in the air.
Had to put my bed back together after an equipment failure. Nothing broke, fortunately!
