LOCATION: London

ITINERARY:

JOURNAL ENTRY:
Slept in until 11:30am. Felt good. Ate breakfast at "Garfunkels". Barb had scrambled egges on toast with salmon. Phil had an omelette with chips (french fries).

Walked to Hyde Park and saw the "Albert Memorial", "Peter Pan Statue", "Kensington Gardens" and the "Elfin Oak". Bought an ice cream cone with a stick of chocolate wafer in it. It reminded us of the "99's" available in Ireland.

There were a large number of swans in the park. You could get really close, since they were not afraid of people. Sat for a while in the park and ate our "Hot X Buns" and "Banana Loaf" we'd bought before getting to the park. Phil thought the "Banana Loaf" was wheat bread. What a surprise.

At Kensington Gardens, you had to pay 20P to use the potty!! Some kind lady let Barb in under her 20P. Barb then let someone else in upon her exit.

Then took the Underground to the London Eye. We only goofed up once when we transferred from the Central Line to the Circle Line. Realized in one stop we were going the wrong way and got off. A nice young lady from Switzerland helped us figure out the correct line.

On the way off the bridge to where the Eye was, we met some scammers who told Barb that they were the only ones you could get tickets from for the London Eye. Everything about them didn't make sense, including the fact that they had no way to make change or process credit cards.

Bought tickets for the Eye at the right place. Rode the Eye and the view was awesome, as you can see in the pictures. The skies were clear and sunny. Then walked aimlessly for a while to find a place to eat.

Walked past "Big Ben", which had scaffolding covering all of it save for the clock face. Went past the House of Parliament, past Westminster Abbey and government offices and a cool building and grounds with one royal guard. The building turned out to be the "Horse Guards" and the "Horse Guards Parade" area. All protected by The Queen's Life Guard.

Walked some more and found a pub called "The Clarence". Sat at the bar and had a steak pie and a chicken pie. Added a bit of cheesecake for dessert. Then walked back to the hotel.

Couldn't help noticing how diversified the "Walker" holdings are.

The view outside the Lexham Gardens hotel. Where we stayed while in London. It's about a 5-6 block walk to Earl's Court station from here.

The birds were quite friendly. Especially if you had something they liked to eat!!

It's not the building. It's the crane!!! Got me curious how they keep it balanced if they lower the boom at all. Doesn't look like the counter weights move outward at all. There were a lot of cranes in use and all of them were similar to this one.

Happened to come upon this on our way back to the hotel. Seems somehow appropriate as Barb's dad was in the 4th Marine Tank Division. If memory serves.

Is that a Red Eye I see??? Need a whole lot of Visine to deal with that!! :)
