ITINERARY:
Explore the city.
PHIL'S THOUGHTS:
I have to admit that when I sat down to figure out the vacation schedule and when to book
the flights, I was a bit nervous about any type of flight on September 11th. In reality, the
odds of anything happening were about the same as any other day so I pushed that concern out
of my head.
Hard to belive that the airline stays in business, given the logistics and mechanical issues we had. Sorta like the Airplane movie.
It was nice being able to ride to the airport and hang with Marissa before her first solo flight. All in all, dispite Barb's near miss with the double-decker bus, being able to check into the hotel right away was good. Much better then our arrival in Ireland where we got to sleep on a couch in the lobby till our room was ready.
Loved Piccadilly Circus. It definitely felt like Times Square. Not quite as much signage but enough to light up a park. It was a cool evening and people were just hanging out together enjoying the space. Never knew M&M had their logo on enough stuff to fill four floors!!
JOURNEL ENTRY:
Got up and took the Underground Piccadilly Line to Piccadilly Circus (Circus means circle in Latin.). Piccadilly Circus is no longer a circle, but it's still very popular. It's similar to "Times Square" in New York. Walked around a bit and got some food at the "Shake Shack". Nothing great.
We were supposed to get loaded fries, but the order got messed up and we received regular fries instead.
After walking around a bit, we headed back to the hotel to sleep the sleep of the dead, since we were up for 36 straight hours!!.
Oh, forgot about our stop in "M&M's World London". It had 4 stories of all things M&M. Bought a small bag of Salted Caramel M&M's (crunchy & smooth). Barb liked the smooth ones best. We also found yummy cookies at a place called "Pret A Manger". Barb's "chocolate praline" was so good. It had a filling of chocolate that oozed down her chin to make a goatee, which she didn't know she had until she walked into the Burger King to use the restroom! [I thought it was cute!]
Went back to the hotel dreaming about "Mind the Gap."

Yup, those are Legos. Also on the wall behind Barb below. |

Never thought of them as a backdrop or wall hanging. |

Love this look on Barb's face. What? I'm not eating anything. Her smile is one of my favorite curves!!! :) |

You can get just about anywhere you want to go in London riding the "Tube".
The trick is to identify the line and then the terminating station. From
the airport, we took the Piccadilly Line from Heathrow Terminals 2&3 (lower
left corner of map) to Earl's Court.
Then there's the constant reminder to "Mind the gap between the train and
the station." I recorded it so you should find a link to it here at some
point.
Or if you're on the District line at the right time of day, you can hear a
very pleasant voice telling you "This is Piccadilly Service to...."
